Juzz Wheelzz : Wrapping Up Wednesday with New Bike Decals!

Plain, dull and boring was what my Suzuki DR200 used to be.

But! Special thanks to Juzz Wheelzz, one of Singapore's popular decal shops, my Suzuki DR200 underwent a cosmetic transformation with new colors injected onto areas like my fuel tank, side panels and front fender.

The great thing about decals is you can have almost any design you fancy, have them printed and stick em on. Tada! Your bike's done. When you have a change in taste and wish to try another design, all you need to do is just strip down the old decals and do up a new one!

It's a lot less hassle/messy compared to spraying on paint, which is permanent.

Now, doing decals may sound easy but it's so much more than just a "Print & Paste" thing. 
I'm sure some of you may have encountered botched decal jobs before and the feeling is just so uncomfortable seeing your ride dressed like that.

Scaling of a particular design and achieving the accurate fitting according to the angle of your bike's proportion and parts is important, and takes skills to make it look flawless.

Large pieces of decals have a higher tendency to catch air bubbles during the decal application process so the decal specialist would have to be very careful and observant about this.

But before all the application process, designing usually takes the longest time. Sometimes you describe a particular design you want, and the designer produces something different from your expectation. Sometimes you think the design you just confirmed is the one you want, then you change your mind 2 days later because you didn't think the initial one was perfect.

Color matching must be taken into account too. It's best if you have a theme in mind.

The last thing you want is feeling pressured about telling your designer how you want your bike to look like and end up, you can't get the message across, your bike turns out looking miserable.

I started off by showing him a few samples pictures. Designs were more towards the sportier side although my bike isn't exactly super sporty looking haha. Compared to other MX bikes, mine looks.. mm.. more conservative. Hahaha.

H was a huge help too, by assisting me in designing my Beyond Everest logo which he probably had to edit it here and there almost..  463 times? Haha not that bad lah uh. But with his pro Photoshop design skills, my desired logo was achieved! Yayyyy :D

Also, there's not much surface area to play around with on my bike, compared to sports bike where the fairings have more. Therefore, it was a little challenging as to how my bike could be designed in the best way possible, neatly incorporating every one of my sponsors logos in too.

I'm thrilled to have their Scorpion MT 90/AT fitted onto my Suzuki DR200 scrambler, all ready to conquer the various mix of terrains I will be riding through from Singapore to Tibet where Mount Everest Base Camp awaits.

Versatility - The tyres are the perfect balance for my adventure consisting of daily urban road use to enduro off road conditions.

The Scorpion MT90/AT tyres are also the stock tyres of the KTM Adventure 990 and apparently it's not easy to find the Scorpion MT90/AT in my tyre size of 21" and 18".

Look at that tread! Created in "V" shape linings for maximum traction and braking power on tarmac and rough grounds and yet maintaining stability at high speeds. Well, with my Suzuki DR200, I won't be going anywhere near fast with my sprockets at 45" and my maximum cruising speed at.. 100kmh.

It can be slippery when the roads/off roads are either too dry or too wet so it's comforting to know that the silica content of the Scorpion MT90/AT tyres are catered for both dry and wet road surfaces, promising good grip.

Definitely will be riding more confidently on the Scorpion tyres!

Mechanic Mania! Special Thanks to Unique Motorsports

So thankful to have Unique Motorsports supporting me on this! When they heard about my quest on riding solo to Tibet this June, they were surprised at the spontaneous idea and wondered how they could be of any help.

"What happens if your bike breaks down, like a tyre puncture?" they asked, full of concern.

"I'm gonna fix it! Yeah!" I said confidently with fire in my eyes.

"Oh wow, you know how to fix a punctured tyre?" seemingly impressed.

"No.. But I'm gonna learn how to." I giggled.

Honestly, learning about my dirt bike and how to change parts isn't the most exciting thing to me, but it's always best to know, in the event anything happens, I'm aware of what's going on.

Those are the items that Unique Motorsports have so kindly supported my bike with!

Because for long touring rides, ensuring your bike is in its tip top condition is necessary. You don't want to be riding long distances with parts that are about to wear out soon especially if parts are already more than 3 - 4 years old. Getting your engine checked and changing things like brakes and chain can significantly reduce bike-related problems happening along the journey.

Of course! I'd never want a tyre puncture. Who would? But we can't deny the fact that it's one of the highest possible thing to happen because of the long distance I will be covering and on different kinds of roads.

Therefore, my main focus would be learning how to change my own tyres (inner tube).
Apart from that, I will also learn how to change the basics like:

Engine Oil
Clutch Cable
Brake/Clutch Lever
Spark Plugs
Gear Shifter Lever
Battery
Headlight

Slowly working on my tyres as Ah Kee subtly sinks into meditation mode

Let's start with the most tedious one which is the changing of tyres.
Ah Kee demonstrated it once to me, and it looked easy peasy. 

Remove the nuts, then the wheels, release the air from the tyres, pry open the tyre, pull out the inner tube, fit back the new inner tube, fold in the tyres, pump air back and screw it back up the bike.

Sounds easy too. Now let's see how I fared:

Mechanics make it look easy but it really isn't very. LET'S TRY AGAIN!

Day 2

Now I look like I'm scooping up some curry fish head.

You see Ah Kee face, going to cannot tahan already because I took super long to remove the tube and put it back hahaha.

I had to do this process multiple times to get it right and removing the rear tyre required more work because it involves the chain and swingarm and.. there's just so many more nuts.

Once I unscrew one nut, like so many other nuts drop out until I'm going nuts! LOL.

Stoning

After changing my tyres a few times, I needed to stone for a good 10 minutes before continuing on to learn the rest of the basics like the clutch and brakes which was luckily quite a breeze.

Thank you so much Ah Kee for your guidance and patience, I know it's not easy especially with a hammer right next to us. Thank you to Alvin for arranging the training schedules for me and most importantly, thank you Unique Motorsports for doing up my Suzuki DR200!! It feels brand new and my ride is much better!

Honestly Unique Motorsports @ Kaki Bukit has excellent customer service and I'm not saying this just because they so genuinely supported #BeyondEverest. You walk in and their staff immediately hands you a bottle of water to quench your thirst. They are attentive when listening to what your bike needs before assigning their skilled mechanics to fix up your bike.

What's best is they have 5 workshops islandwide so you'd definitely find one near you!

Beyond Everest for Singapore Disability Sports Council

We should never disqualify the capability and value of persons with disabilities.

We all have our different "mountain" of challenges in Life, we all have Dreams.
But how do you plan to conquer it and turn your dream into a reality?

As some of you might already know, this June, I will be riding my Suzuki DR200 motorcycle solo (no support vehicle/no film crew), every day consecutively, from Singapore to the Himalayas Region in Tibet where Mount Everest North Base Camp sits, to raise funds and awareness for the Singapore Disability Sports Council.

Over the past week, I've had the privilege to spend time with some of the athletes of the Singapore Disability Sports Council and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a few courageous ones who have inspired me much more than I personally expected.

Jason Chee

"Don't ever stop trying"

Singapore Navy Serviceman who lost both his legs and left arm in a ship accident where he was caught in between a motorized winch and a rope on board warship RSS Endeavor.

But nothing can stop this strong-willed man who is determined to overcome any challenge thrown at him. As I interacted with him, I could sense his strong fighting spirit which has led him to where he is today, touching the lives of many.

He has since gone on to pursue his degree in a private school and still works for the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Supported by the Singapore Disability Sports Council, Jason is now a Table Tennis National Athlete in Team Singapore, competing regularly in the Para Games.

 "I want to do so much more, and I'm going to"

A sportsman who lost his right leg in an accident where he was hit head on by a taxi, severing his tibier (the part between the knee and the ankle) immediately.

Today, he is standing against all odds, becoming a National Athlete in Archery for Team Singapore, supported by Singapore Disability Sports Council. Read the full story here.

Desmond is also a Senior Prosthetist/Orthotist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital who too, volunteers regularly at the Amputee Support Group, Amputee Sports Activities Passion Group to help those who were once where he was.

Kevin Wong

"Life goes on, how well do you want to live it?"

An active boy since young, he loved and played competitive basketball, soccer and had a burning passion for motorcycling. Kevin lost his right leg in an accident where he was hit real hard in the rear by another motorcyclist.

With the unconditional love and support from his family, Kevin is now highly equipped with mechanical skills, specializing in dyno tuning and customizing Öhlins suspensions for super bikes at Race Werks Motorsports. He is also a National Athlete in Archery for Team Singapore, supported by the Singapore Disability Sports Council.

Thanks to crowdfunding site GIVEASIA, I've managed to set up a movement for Beyond Everest where all of you can donate directly to Singapore Disability Sports Council to support their athletes!
